📖 CHAPTER 10 — RETURN TO GREYFIELD 🎬 Scene 10.1 — Approach The Hauler slows. Not by terrain. By design. Ahead— Greyfield. In the horizon. Wide complex. Layered compound. Concrete over structure. Structure over intent. No lights searching. Only fixed illumination. Watching. The gate remains closed. Adrian eases the vehicle forward. No stopping, no rushing. Approaching firmly. 🎬 Scene 10.2 — Perimeter Response A sound. Mechanical. Sequential. Locks disengaging. Not one. Multiple. The gate opens— Just enough. Misha watches the angles. Hanae scans the walls. Wu Ming— still. Oksana checks her wrist. FL — elevated Stable… but wrong No one speaks. 🎬 Scene 10.3 — Entry The Hauler crosses. The gate closes behind them— Immediately. No delay. No tolerance. Inside— Space compresses. Not physically. Systemically. They are no longer moving freely. They are being processed. 🎬 Scene 10.4 — Intake Hold The vehicle stops. Hard. “Hold.” The voice isn’t near. It’s everywhere. Flat. Controlled. “Disembark.” Rear door opens. Oksana first. Wu Ming behind— ACC still in hand. Misha steps out— last. Hanae drops from turret. Adrian cuts engine. Silence settles— but not empty. Measured. They exit the Hauler. 🎬 Scene 10.5 — Scan Grid Yellow lines on the floor. Pre-marked positions. They step into them— instinctively. Overhead— frames descend. Mechanical. Precise. A hum begins. Low. Constant. Oksana checks— FL holds But fluctuating under baseline She notes it. Doesn’t speak. 🎬 Scene 10.6 — Object Separation “Containment item forward.” Wu Ming doesn’t move immediately. Adrian steps in— reaches— Wu Ming stops him. “No.” ... “Step back.” A pause. Then— Wu Ming moves forward. Places the ACC into the intake cradle. The system accepts it. Locks. Seals. Removes it. No confirmation given. 🎬 Scene 10.7 — Decontamination “Proceed.” They move. No escort. Because none is needed. The path is defined. Water hits— hard. Pressurized. Unforgiving. Gear stripped. Surface cleared. Steam builds. Visibility drops. No one speaks. Hanae finishes first. Leaves immediately. Misha follows. Wu Ming— minimal delay. Oksana— last. Watching her wrist. FL — lowering Not enough. 🎬 Scene 10.8 — Triage Metal beds. Minimal padding. Equipment already active. Prepared. Not welcoming. “Injection.” Yellow fluid drawn. Administered. Oksana watches each dose. Tracks response. Misha— stable. Hanae— controlled. Wu Ming— no visible reaction. Oksana injects herself last. Her FL stabilizes. Slightly. 🎬 Scene 10.9 — Movement Through Greyfield They move again. No rest. No pause. They pass— Armoury Weapons open. Disassembled. Maintained. Mess Occupied. Quiet. Functional. Bunks Dense. Shared. No privacy. No one looks at them. Not really. Because this— is normal. 🎬 Scene 10.10 — System Awareness The deeper they go— the quieter it becomes. Not less active. More contained. Adrian slows slightly. Observing. Absorbing. Oksana notices the usual— restricted doors sealed corridors no access markings Wu Ming doesn’t look. He already knows. It's a version of his home after all. 🎬 Scene 10.11 — Pre-Debrief Corridor They stop. Not told to. They know. The door ahead— different. Reinforced. Closed. Waiting. Oksana checks her wrist again. FL — stable But still elevated... Misha exhales slowly. Hanae stands still. Adrian says nothing. Wu Ming— Stays in the front. Unmoving. 🎬 Scene 10.12 — End State A voice. Distant. Clear. “Debrief pending.” ... “Stand by.” No movement. No reaction. Only— stillness. Not rest. Not relief. Simply processing. 🏛️ GREYFIELD 🧭 Overview Greyfield is not just a base. It is a containment system. Built at the edge of anomaly-active zones, it serves as the primary interface between the field and the Directorate. Everything that enters or exits the rift passes through Greyfield—personnel, data, and recovered materials. It does not exist to provide safety. It exists to maintain control. ⚙️ Function Greyfield operates as a closed-loop processing environment. Its core functions include: intake and scanning of returning operatives containment and transfer of anomaly cores (ACC units) flux stabilization through medical triage and controlled injection data logging, analysis, and system integration operational reset before redeployment Every action inside Greyfield is procedural. Movement is guided, monitored, and recorded. There are no undefined spaces. 🧱 Structure The facility is industrial and layered, built from reinforced concrete and retrofitted systems. It shows visible wear—stains, patched repairs, exposed wiring—evidence of continuous use under pressure. Key zones include: Intake Bay — controlled entry point for all returning units Decontamination Blocks — enforced cleansing and flux reduction Triage Centre — stabilization using yellow flux-regulating compounds Monitoring Room — central command and live system tracking Mess Hall — where some light solace is available in barely decent food Debrief Chamber — post-mission interrogation and data extraction Armoury — maintenance and allocation of weapons and gear Bunk Blocks — shared quarters for standard STALKERS Private Quarters — restricted access rooms for high-clearance operatives Research Zones — sealed laboratories handling anomaly study (restricted) The deeper one moves into Greyfield, the more restricted—and controlled—it becomes. Personnel are not welcomed. They are processed. Returning STALKERS are treated as variables—potentially contaminated, unstable, and incomplete. Their condition is measured, adjusted, and recorded before they are allowed to reintegrate. Greyfield is where survival is evaluated. You do not return to safety. You return to be assessed. And if necessary—corrected. Note: This is my attempt at making a long series. Beginning: Chapter 1: The Edge of Entry Links to previous and next chapter: Chapter 9: Window Chapter 11: (Coming Soon) Credits: Thanks to @panos for his Exclusion Zone. This is something to add to his and is a standalone spin.
