📖 CHAPTER 6 — “ESCAPE UNDER LOAD” 🎬 Scene 6.1 — The Rift Is Gone The light folds inward. Sharp. Final. Gone. Wu Ming doesn’t react immediately. He feels the absence first. Then confirms it. No glow. No distortion. No threshold. Oksana exhales, steadying herself. Her wrist vibrates once. DIST — ERROR T+ — active FL — 31.4 She looks up. “…It didn’t cross.” Wu Ming nods. He saw it stop. Right at the edge. Then disappear with the collapse. 🎬 Scene 6.2 — Immediate Check Oksana steps in without hesitation. “Hold it steady.” Wu Ming lowers the ACC slightly. She grips the casing with one hand—firm, practiced. The other hand taps her PFM-86. Running a quick diagnostic cross-check. Seal integrity. Containment stability. Flux interaction. The casing hums faintly. The core inside— dim. Contained. But not inert. Oksana narrows her eyes. “…It’s not stabilizing.” That’s wrong. Inside the rift— it was already observed to not be the usual core. Out here— it does nothing, although it should be. 🎬 Scene 6.3 — Flux Discrepancy She checks her readings again. FL — 31.4 → 32.0 Rising. She angles her wrist closer to the ACC. Watching for correlation. There it is. A slight increase. Subtle. But consistent. “It’s emitting,” she says. Wu Ming asks, “Containment breach?” Oksana shakes her head immediately. “No. Contained... but not isolated.” 🎬 Scene 6.4 — Environmental Read Oksana releases her touch on the casing. Steps back half a pace. Scans the ground. Minimal damage. Hairline fractures. Loose debris. No crater. No burn pattern. She frowns slightly. “This should have been worse.” “It collapsed inward.” Wu Ming adds. She nods. Which means— the damage didn’t spread. It compressed. 🎬 Scene 6.5 — First Contact (Visual) Oksana is still looking outward when she sees it. A shift. Between trees. She stills. “…Contact.” Wu Ming turns. 🎬 Scene 6.6 — The Silhouettes They’re not hiding. That’s the first problem. They move openly. Slow. Deliberate. Oksana squints slightly. Adjusts her position. Better angle. Better clarity. “…Six,” she says. Then— “…more behind.” Humanoid. But wrong. Proportions stretched. Movement slightly misaligned. Not stumbling. Not erratic. Intentional. “…Mutants.” 🎬 Scene 6.7 — ACC Correlation Oksana glances back at the ACC. Then at her wrist. FL — 32.0 → 32.8 She steps closer to Wu Ming again. Checks proximity response. The reading ticks again. Small. But real. “They’re not just approaching us,” she says. Wu Ming already understands. “They’re tracking the ACC.” 🎬 Scene 6.8 — System Reality Oksana runs one more quick check. ACC stability: Nominal Containment: Intact External influence: Active She tightens her grip on the casing briefly. Not fear. Confirmation. “This thing is broadcasting.” Wu Ming quickly chiming in “Then we don’t stay still.” 🎬 Scene 6.9 — First Test One of the mutants accelerates. Not a charge. A probe. Wu Ming raises his weapon. Fires once. Controlled. Impact. The mutant recoils— but does not fall. Oksana watches closely. Not the target. The reaction. “They’re not deterred,” she says. Wu Ming lowers the weapon slightly. “They’re assessing.” 🎬 Scene 6.10 — Tactical Shift No debate. Wu Ming makes the call. “We move. Fast.” Oksana nods. Then adds: “Keep the ACC close.” Not suggestion. Requirement. If separation happens— they lose control of the situation entirely. 🎬 Scene 6.11 — Encroachment Pattern They move. The mutants adjust instantly. Spacing widens. Angles shift. Two moves to intercept. Others drift outward. Oksana watches the pattern. Her voice lowers: “…They’re herding us.” “Yes” quips Wu Ming. 🎬 Scene 6.12 — Exit Condition Oksana checks one last time. FL — 32.8 → 34.1 She exhales slowly. “FL’s accelerating.” Wu Ming: “Then we don’t wait for it to peak.” They both understand. This is no longer recovery. This is escape under load. MP-86 “SIDEFLOW” The MP-86 “Sideflow” is a compact flux-powered machine pistol designed for close-quarters engagements within anomaly-affected environments. Built for rapid response and immediate suppression, it utilizes a contained flux cell derived from processed anomaly cores to deliver high-rate bursts of flux-augmented fire. Its compact form allows for fast deployment in confined spaces, making it a preferred secondary weapon for medics, scouts, and team leaders operating under unpredictable conditions. Unlike standard ballistic sidearms, the Sideflow channels controlled instability—trading sustained output for speed and responsiveness. It performs best in short, decisive engagements where reaction time determines survival. Despite its size, the weapon carries inherent risk. Its flux system is limited and sensitive to overheating, requiring disciplined use. In the hands of experienced operators—particularly those with elevated Flux Load tolerance—it becomes a highly effective tool for close-range anomaly suppression. The Sideflow is not a weapon of endurance; it is a weapon of immediacy, precision, and controlled volatility. Note: This is my attempt at making a long series.
