Young man tossing a silver coin

About this image

This cinematic prohibition-era composite artwork features a young working class man in a newsboy cap and suspenders looking upward as he tosses a silver coin into the air. The split scene juxtaposes a gentle, loving working class family in a sunlit modest apartment on the left with stern, fedora-wearing 1920s gangsters armed with tommy guns standing on a foggy wet cobblestone street on the right. Moody, smoky low lighting balances warm home tones and cool dark street tones, creating a tense dramatic atmosphere evocative of classic gangster drama themes of fate and chance.
