Inktober 2026 Day 21 : beacon 1. My original. My idea was a beacon fire, an early emergency signal long before radio. Also some cultures used blankets to create a morse-code-like smoke signal in puffs of smoke that could be seen for miles. Academic Realism is a style that tries to make a painting look as real as possible. I use it to see how well the AI understands my image. What surprised me here is how some of the results don't look like Academic Realism. Prompt: Academic Realism 2. Nano Banana 2.1 Looks like Academic Realism and also what I had h hoped my sketch portrayed. 3. Ideogram v 4.5 This is the only one that did mesas, which is a flattopped mountain or hill very prevalent in the Southwest desert. Because of that it made me think of how Native Americans used blankets to interrupt the flow of the smoke, creating a smoke language. 4. Muse 1.0 Does not looks like Academic Realism but I think it's a cool style. It looks like a pencil drawing. It's the closest to my sketch in looks but does a wonderful job illustrating the idea of beacon fires 5. GPT 2.5 Sunburst Love the photogravure look that resulted. 6. Grok 2 Grok went on a surreal bender but I liked the result October is Inktober month where people are challenged to do one ink drawing a day.
