The original Beauty and the Beast (1987-1990) was one of my favorite shows. Not only was it romantic, but I loved the underground community, the intelligent patriarch, and mostly that this was a group of people who built something out of nothing and cared for each other. Yes Catherine and Vincent relationship was lovely to watch but without the larger framework of the community, their story would not have had as much depth. Before he wrote the A Song of Ice and Fire novels (which became Game of Thrones), fantasy legend George R.R. Martin was a writer and producer on this series.
Entry in the Favourite TV Shows theme.

About this image
This warm cozy fantasy scene depicts a ragged young scholar reading an old leather spellbook beside a roaring hearth, surrounded by an elderly wizard, smiling traveler, and anthropomorphic lion in medieval robes. The rustic stone study is lined with weathered bookshelves, dripping beeswax candles, and vintage pipework, lit entirely by flickering firelight for a rich, immersive, storybook atmosphere. Earthy wood, stone, and worn fabric tones give the space a lived-in, welcoming medieval fantasy feel.
This warm atmospheric fantasy scene depicts a found family gathered in a candlelit stone library, illuminated by the golden glow of a crackling hearth and flickering candlelight. Rich dark wood bookshelves, woven patterned rugs, and weathered vintage furnishings create an intimate, calming mood of quiet shared companionship. The rustic medieval dark academia aesthetic feels welcoming, warm, and perfectly suited for quiet evenings spent reading.

The first 2 seasons were awesome. She died in the premier of the 3rd season (she was pregnant and wanted off the show for her child so they wrote her out). The third season was problematical without her -- of course, Vincent was grieving but it made for a morose show. They might have survived but the young woman they brought in to replace Linda was younger, prettier but did not have the acting chops to give provide depth to her character. It's very hard to follow up a really good actor/actress whose left a show. If you can watch it, there might be reruns out there. ---The reboot on WB Beauty and the Beast with Lana from Smallville was not as good imo. That was a completely different show -- more like a Hulk/Wolverine premise of experiments and becoming superpowerful. It didn't have the heart and community that this first one did.
And the lead actress was Linda Hamilton, Sarah Connor from Terminator.

dang, I missed out 😲 that looks awesome
Yeah, I really liked her in this. She did a good job of being both tough and vulnerable. She's a very good actress.
