Three panel satirical comic showing a rococo noblewoman

This was the trendy hairstyle back in its day. The garden pouf was an extravagant 1770s hairstyle sculpted into a towering miniature landscape—complete with tiny hedges, silk flowers, figurines, and even a delicate birdcage perched among the curls. Speaking of trends, for the last panel, I wanted to use the interrobang ‽ which is a rare, non-standard punctuation mark that combines a question mark and an exclamation point into a single symbol. Martin K. Speckter invented it in the 1960s because he thought !? or ?! looked messy. Although it became popular enough in the 1960s to have typewriters add the key, interrobang's trendiness hasn't lasted and it's rarely used now. Since today was National Punctuation Day, I wanted to use the ‽ to celebrate. Unfortunately none of the models understood what it was and I got just ? question marks in the last panel or the occasional ! ? . Too bad. I thought it has a fun punctuation mark.

About this image
This playful satirical 3-panel comic pokes fun at extreme 18th century rococo fashion, following a Marie Antoinette-style noblewoman whose towering powdered wig holds an entire pastoral garden. The illustration opens inside an opulent gilded Versailles ballroom, zooms in on the elaborate topiary hairstyle complete with gazebo, fountain, sheep and birdcage, then cuts to a confused aristocrat staring up in bewilderment. The art uses soft pastel tones, elegant linework, and lighthearted comedic tone to lean into the absurdity of historical upper class fashion trends.

yeah interrobang was supposed to replace !? with ‽ but it's a pain to do. They say on the phone you can do it by holding down the ? key long and then you get a pop up menu that includes upside down ¿ and ‽ . To me, it's cool to see the interrobang large but for regular size print ?! is much easier to see and understand. ‽ is hard to see in smaller print as it looks like a messed up ? mark. It never became popular but a few people like to use it because to them it looks less messy. Me? I'm happy with ?! and !? and ?!!! lol
lol, laughing, it is beyond words. Cracks me up but it was a real thing in the 1700s. And she would not have been the only one in the room with 2 foot high hair. Cracking up. Interrobang was made in the 1960s and was used for a while but not so much now. ‽ It looks like that with an exclamation mark centered over a question mark. What people do nowadays is !? or ?! So we do them seperate. It means an excited question. It's in some fonts. Now I think it's something typographers know about rather than regular people.
laughing, I hadn't thought of that. She must have strong neck muscles... or maybe it's all paper mache? But even having that much hair weighs a ton. I know because I used to have long hair and when I cut it, my head felt so much lighter. It really surprised me

Heh, imagine how much time it took to do their hair for an event! Now that you mentioned it, I do ?! all the time. So i was using interrobang without knowing about it! 🙂

The lady is clearly related to Atlas with neck muscles like that😂 poor guy nearly broke his own in shock🤣

Hahaha, it would have been great to put a "CRACK!" right next to the neck.
