QT: Fictional novel characters, artist impressions (not actor/actress portrayal) Winnetou and Old Shatterhand, Karl May 1893 -> Treasure of Silver Lake: https://budgetpixel.com/p/24839 Winnetou and Old Shatterhand are two of the most iconic figures of classic Western literature, created by German author Karl May. Winnetou, the noble Apache chief, is known for his wisdom, dignity, and deep sense of honor. He represents a spiritual connection to nature and a strong moral compass. Old Shatterhand, a German frontiersman, is his loyal friend—brave, intelligent, and physically powerful, yet guided by fairness and integrity. Together, they embody an enduring friendship that transcends cultures, standing for trust, respect, and shared adventure in the untamed landscapes of the American West.
About this image
A cinematic desert shot featuring two men in fringed buckskin outfits, one holding a lever-action rifle and the other a decorative rifle, back-to-back under a warm orange sky. The rugged landscape with tall cacti and rock formations creates a dramatic, Western frontier mood.

Check out Karl May on Wikipedia. He basically wrote travel adventure stories, mainly about the Middle East and North America, with himself being the hero (Old Shatterhand/Kara ben Nemsi), without ever travelling there, but extremely accurate in regards to geography, anthropology and languages, politics, etc., due the vast library he had of traveller and explorer accounts, dictionaries, maps etc. Quite impressive actually.

I suppose in the US that genre dominated by likes of Louis L'Amour and JT Edson. At least those are the only two I recall from my youth. Though never got into westerns in a big way. All I can recall is reading Hondo and Shane (though latter by Jack Schaefer)

I'd like to hae read some of may's books. I'm sure i would have adored them, as I was a HUGE fan of Verne's also. Alas, I don't think they were published in my country -not to my knowledge, anyway....
I assumed that it's Greek, that why I sent you earlier a link to the cover of the only book available in Greek. The books are always reprinted. Quite a few are available in English. https://www.karl-may-wiki.de/images/7/7a/Binetoy.jpg
Thank you. Here is the US completely unknown. Even though his books were translated into up to 47 languages, and 200 Million copies sold of the Authors books.
Ich war ja Kind als die rauskamen Anfang der 60er. Ich hatte lieberman die Bücher gelesen. Ich habe die gesamten Werke auf dem Telefon, sozusagen.
Check him out on Wikipedia. The worldwide sales of Karl May's books are estimated to be approximately 200 million copies. Translation into up to 47 languages. https://www.karl-may-wiki.de/images/7/7a/Binetoy.jpg
