About this image
This raw, expressive monochrome portrait uses gritty gestural ink brushwork to depict a partially obscured human face. A stark cross of scratchy rough strokes covers the upper face, creating a moody, unsettling and introspective tone. The dramatic high contrast black and white palette evokes themes of hidden identity, censorship and suppressed emotion.
