First of all, welcome. This is an ongoing project. I hope you all enjoy it. If you haven't read any of the previous Chronicles, then the reading order can be found HERE If you want to dive straight in, here is a quick recap. Rose Ashcombe A 29-year-old librarian from another reality, Rose was pulled through an unstable rift and found herself in a world of magic and ancient mysteries. She carries a living grimoire that responds to her memories and knowledge, allowing her to draw upon the stories she has read in unexpected ways. Intelligent, curious, and practical, Rose solves problems through understanding rather than force. Sora the Grey A former slave turned mercenary, Sora is a hardened survivor shaped by a painful past. Skilled with a sword and cautious around strangers, she hides a compassionate nature beneath her guarded exterior. She trusts actions more than words and has learned to survive in a world that rarely shows kindness. Two strangers from different worlds. One carries a book filled with endless possibilities. The other carries the scars of survival. Their journey begins not with destiny, but with a choice to walk together Book One: The Girl Who Carried a Story Chapter One The temple had been abandoned for centuries. At least, that was what Sora assumed. The mercenary had entered looking for shelter from the rain, expecting nothing more than broken stone, forgotten prayers, and maybe a few useful supplies left behind by travellers. Instead, she found a woman standing alone in the centre of the chamber. Not a warrior. Not a thief. Not a mage. Just a confused woman wearing unfamiliar clothes, staring at an old book that was floating open in front of her. Rose had no idea how long she had been there. One moment, she had been in a library. The next, she had fallen through a tear in reality and woken in a world that looked like something from the fantasy novels she used to catalogue. The book had appeared beside her. The strange thing was that she understood it. Not completely. But enough to know it was alive. Sora kept her hand near her sword. Rose noticed. “I'm guessing you’re not the person who is supposed to explain what happened to me?” Sora studied her carefully. “No.” A pause. “But I was hoping you might explain what happened to you.” Neither woman trusted the other. But neither walked away. “The world is full of magic things, patiently waiting for our senses to grow sharper.” — W.B. Yeats
