This is my new OC, Rose Ashcombe. I have an existing Character called Emilia, and asked ChatGPT for a prompt that would give me of a 6-panel comic strip that could explain her origin story. Color me shocked when it told me it was working out the details and sketching the image. As my Mum has helped me with character ideas before I showed her, and we came up with a name, backstory, ideas for her powers, as well as her likes and dislikes. This is the final result, again from ChatGPT, after we tweaked some of the details and made a few major adjustments. Rose Ashcombe Occupation: Librarian, Archivist, and Historical Research Specialist Birthplace: York, England Current Residence: Once lived in York, now stranded in Asterveil , along with with Sora the Grey , Lilitha Noctis, the Blood Queen and Cordelia "Cordy" Voss Rose stands around 5'7" (170 cm) with an understated elegance that often goes unnoticed until she starts speaking. She has chestnut-brown hair, usually tied into a loose braid to keep it out of the way while working, expressive hazel eyes, and a warm smile that appears whenever someone shares her enthusiasm for history. She favors practical but stylish vintage-inspired clothing—tweed skirts, fitted cardigans, leather boots, and antique silver jewelry. Biography Rose Ashcombe always believed every book had a soul. Growing up surrounded by museums, castles, and medieval streets, she developed an obsession with forgotten history. While other children dreamed of adventure, Rose found excitement in dusty manuscripts, hidden marginal notes, and faded maps. That fascination led her to become a librarian, where she quickly earned a reputation for uncovering information no one else could find. Outside work, she restored vintage books, collected Victorian tapestries, attended classic car rallies, and spent weekends riding her lovingly restored 1967 Triumph Bonneville through the countryside. Despite loving her profession, she grew tired of hearing people joke that librarians "just put books back on shelves." Few realized how much detective work, preservation, and research the job truly involved. Everything changed during a late evening inventory. While examining a centuries-old illuminated manuscript that contained illustrations of impossible constellations, the library lights flickered. A jagged violet tear opened in the air above the reading room. Shelves shook, books spiraled upward, and before Rose could react, the unstable rip in reality pulled her into a swirling vortex. She awoke in an ancient forest beneath unfamiliar stars. The portal had vanished. Now trapped in a world of monsters, kingdoms, magic, and forgotten civilizations, Rose has discovered that the myths she once catalogued were never fiction at all. Her encyclopedic memory and talent for piecing together obscure clues quickly proved invaluable. Rather than becoming a warrior, Rose serves as the group's historian, translator, strategist, and solver of ancient mysteries. Her path eventually crosses with Sora the Grey , whose practical survival skills perfectly complement Rose's scholarly knowledge. Together they uncover relics, decipher forgotten languages, and navigate ruins whose histories only Rose can reconstruct. Through Sora, Rose also meets Lilitha Noctis , the enigmatic Blood Queen. Unlike most who fear Lilitha, Rose is fascinated by her firsthand memories of civilizations that vanished thousands of years ago. The two often spend evenings discussing lost empires, extinct languages, and historical events that no surviving record could ever describe. Although she still hopes to find a way home, part of Rose has begun to realize that this impossible world offers the greatest library imaginable—one whose stories have never been written. Personality Naturally curious and endlessly patient. Intelligent without being arrogant. Calm under pressure, preferring logic over panic. Dry, witty sense of humor that often catches people off guard. Compassionate and quick to help strangers. Quietly stubborn once she believes she's right. Courage grows from necessity rather than bravado. Likes Vintage Triumph motorcycles Classic British sports cars Antique tapestries and textile restoration Rare books and illuminated manuscripts Medieval history Ancient languages Tea by a fireplace Libraries with hidden passages Quiet forests Mapping forgotten ruins Dislikes People who dismiss librarianship as dull or unimportant Needless destruction of historical artifacts Loud, boastful personalities Willful ignorance Humid weather that damages old books Being underestimated Cruelty toward the powerless Seeing knowledge deliberately erased Skills Exceptional historical research Fast reader with remarkable memory Cataloging and organization Deciphering old scripts and forgotten languages Puzzle solving Cartography Book restoration Textile conservation Basic first aid Surprisingly good motorcycle mechanic Weaknesses Little formal combat training. Sometimes becomes so fascinated by ancient discoveries that she forgets the danger around her. Can overthink situations before acting. Finds it difficult to leave mysteries unsolved. Speaking Style Rose speaks thoughtfully and precisely, choosing her words carefully without sounding overly formal. When discussing history, forgotten cultures, or old books, her reserved demeanor disappears, and she becomes animated, enthusiastic, and almost impossible to interrupt. She's got the Power Awakened Ability – The Living Grimoire Rose's greatest strength was never physical—it was her extraordinary mind. Possessing an almost perfect photographic memory, she could recall every page, illustration, diagram, and sentence from every book she had ever truly read. For years, this remarkable gift seemed little more than an aid to her work as a librarian. In the new world, however, it awakened into something far more extraordinary. Deep within an abandoned temple dedicated to the forgotten deity of stories and knowledge, Rose inadvertently bonded with an ancient magical relic known as The Living Grimoire . The artifact recognized her unparalleled memory and transformed itself into a beautifully bound mystical tome, its cover embossed with shifting silver filigree and a violet gemstone that glows whenever its magic is called upon. The pages of the Grimoire are blank until Rose thinks of a book she has read. The chosen pages then write themselves in glowing ink, recreating the exact passage she remembers. As she reads aloud or concentrates on the memory, the pages begin to emit streams of shimmering violet light that spill into the air like ribbons of living words. From these pages, an entire scene manifests into reality. The Grimoire does not simply create illusions—it temporarily brings the remembered scene into the world around her. A raging river from an adventure novel can appear to block pursuing enemies. The grand staircase of an ancient castle can rise from the earth to reach an otherwise inaccessible fortress wall. A detective's ingenious mechanical trap can materialize exactly as described. A bustling marketplace can briefly emerge to provide cover, while the sturdy bridge from a travel journal can span a seemingly impossible chasm. Because every manifestation originates from Rose's own memory, no two users could ever wield the Grimoire in quite the same way. Limitations The magic is powerful, but it is governed by strict rules. * Rose must have personally read and clearly remember the source material. * The more detailed her memory of the scene, the more complete and stable the manifestation becomes. * Poorly remembered passages produce incomplete or unstable creations. * Manifestations are temporary, lasting from a few seconds to several minutes, depending on their complexity. * Larger or more elaborate scenes consume tremendous magical energy, leaving Rose mentally exhausted afterward. * The Grimoire cannot alter history, resurrect the dead, or create permanent objects—it can only recreate moments exactly as they appeared in the original work. * Under extreme emotional stress, the Grimoire may summon an unintended scene if Rose loses focus. Role in the Story Rose quickly becomes one of the most versatile members of the group. While Sora the Grey confronts danger head-on and Lilitha Noctis commands overwhelming ancient power, Rose solves problems through imagination, intellect, and an unmatched command of stories. Every challenge becomes a puzzle. Rather than asking, "How do we escape?" Rose asks, "What book have I read where someone solved this?" To Rose, every novel, history book, myth, and fairy tale has become part of an endless magical arsenal. Her greatest weapon is not a sword or a spell, but the countless stories she carries within her mind, each one waiting to leap from the glowing pages of the Living Grimoire and reshape reality itself.
