The Chronicles of Asterveil - The Saga of Sora

Table of Contents Backstory Character Sheet Animations Quest for the Blood Queen Soundtrack Introduction I have been working on this character for the last week or so. I freely admit to being blown away by @dirty_biker Soldier Girl OC and decided to have a stab (heh) at a D&D-style heroine. Anyhoo, the header image was done in P-image (10 credits - Bargain). I used thay as my main reference image in the comic strips and then used image-to-image with Seedance 5.0 Pro to actually make the strip. Backstory Sora – The Lady in Chains Before the scars, before the chains, before she learned that justice was a luxury reserved for the powerful, Sora lived a quiet life in the borderlands of the Kingdom of Aranth. She was married to her childhood sweetheart, Rowan, the boy she had grown up laughing, working, and dreaming beside. Their families had farmed neighbouring fields for generations, and though they possessed little wealth, they had built a life rich in love, honest work, and hope for the future. It should have been an ordinary life. Instead, it became a nightmare. One autumn evening, Sir Aldren Blackthorn rode into their village. To the kingdom, he was a celebrated knight—a champion draped in polished steel, praised for his victories and honoured in noble courts. To those beneath his authority, he was a tyrant who believed every life could be bought, every oath broken, and every person owned if he desired it enough. When his eyes fell upon Sora, he demanded that she become his mistress. She refused without hesitation. She told him she was already married and that her heart belonged to her husband alone. No one had ever denied Sir Aldren Blackthorn. Humiliated before his own men, he swore that if she would not choose him willingly, then he would ensure she belonged to no one else. That very night, his soldiers descended upon the farm under the false accusation that the family had harboured traitors to the Crown. Rowan fought beside Sora's father with nothing more than a wood axe against armoured knights. He died defending his wife, buying precious moments for the rest of the family. Those moments were not enough. Her father was slain before her eyes. Her mother fell trying to shield her children. Brothers, sisters, cousins, and kin were butchered until the farmhouse ran red with blood. Sora was the only one left alive. Not because Blackthorn showed mercy. Because he wanted her to live with what he had taken. He claimed her as his personal slave, declaring that the widow of a dead farmer would spend the rest of her days reminding herself what defiance cost. Iron shackles were forged bearing his family crest so all would know to whom she belonged. Hidden from the eyes of respectable society, she lived in damp stone cellars, clothed in rags and surviving on scraps barely fit for animals. She scrubbed floors until her hands bled, carried water until her shoulders burned, and slept on cold stone with chains fixed to the wall. Yet whenever nobles visited the estate, her misery vanished behind a carefully crafted illusion. She was bathed, dressed in magnificent gowns, adorned with glittering jewels, and paraded through lavish halls at Sir Aldren's side. Guests admired her beauty and praised Blackthorn's refinement, believing she was some favoured servant or cherished companion. No one questioned why the jewelled bracelets never left her wrists. No one noticed that the elegant necklaces concealed old bruises. No one asked why her smile never reached her eyes. To them, she was another symbol of Blackthorn's wealth—a beautiful possession displayed like a prize sow at market, polished for admiration before being locked away once the celebrations ended. Years passed. Blackthorn believed he had broken her. Instead, he taught her patience. She memorised guard rotations, hidden passages, the habits of drunken sentries, and where every key was kept. Every humiliation became another lesson. Every punishment strengthened her resolve to survive long enough to escape. Her chance finally came when rival lords laid siege to Blackthorn's keep. Amid smoke, panic, and the clash of steel, a young stable hand—one of the few servants who had ever shown her kindness—pressed a ring of keys into her shackled hands. "For your husband," he whispered. "For everyone." The chains finally fell away. She escaped into the burning night carrying only a stolen sword and the wedding ring she had secretly hidden throughout her years of captivity—the last piece of Rowan she had left. She has never removed it. Now Sora wanders the realms as a sellsword. She sells her blade because it is the only honest way she knows to survive, but she never fights for cruelty, oppression, or slavers. Those who prey upon the helpless soon discover that the quiet mercenary with the scarred wrists shows them no mercy. Though she has reclaimed her freedom, the wounds left by Sir Aldren Blackthorn have never truly healed. He remains a celebrated knight, honoured by kings who know only the mask he wears. Sora knows the monster beneath it. One day she will stand before him again—not as a chained widow, not as a frightened prisoner, but as the woman he failed to break. She carries her husband's ring as a reminder that love survived where hatred failed. And when justice finally comes for Sir Aldren Blackthorn, she will whisper Rowan's name before she raises her sword. Character Sheet This character sheet was done in gpt-image 2 (102 credits with my discount - oof!) And this one was done in grok-image-imagine (35 credits - yay!) Getting animated First up, I tried a I2V video using an earlier version ofthe character using Pixverse V6, which imho was pretty good at following my intention for the fight. (well apart from there being no BGM - maybe I prompted wrong or Pixvers can't handle it - idk) and, er I forgot to use the 15 second option, cough, duh, cough. Stunningly directed and animated 15 second fight sequence where she attacks and defeats multiple armed Orcish assailants, clean cuts between each encounter, pounding techno soundtrack, stunning lighting and composition Using this prompt with an updated reference image gave me this. For some reason, Pixverse decided to add in a mic drop at the end (Nope, no clue..) Quest for the Blood Queen As Morwenna's bodyguard, and given her well-known hatred of Slavers, Sora has an excellent intelligence network of former slaves, street urchins, and the occasional cut-purse. She has heard rumours of Adventurers going missing after taking on a vaguely worded quest being sponsored by the Adventurers' guild. Fearing the possible involvement of a slaving ring, she heads off to investigate. After following the totally not dodgy signs, she follows the steps down to the Crypts under a ruined Abbey... Well, it seems like maybe this was all just a waste of time and there was nothing to her suspicions... Then again...
