It was......until hard drugs crept into it. The Diggers commune started the movement and then kissed it off with a parade referred to as the Death of Hip with a casket filled with hippy beads and launched it into the Pacific Ocean.

Didn't know that about The Diggers. Drugs, Manson, Altamont, bands with a darker vision like The Doors. I suppose like all such things it was inevitable it would have a limited lifespan
