Overhead aerial view of pedestrians holding black

Whenever I see something related to "chess", somehow my mind drifted to the philosophical view that we are all chess pieces in our own lives, manipulated by the various commitments we place our time, energy and soul in, often not under our control as well. Hence, when I saw the challenge, I wanted to bring that philosophy into my piece, by showing a street with a chessboard design and people moving like chess pieces. I know full well that it would tank in the rankings and to no surprise, it was placed bottom 10 (40 out of 49 entries). No regrets submitting this just to stir up a little difference in the pool.

About this image

This top-down street photograph captures a symmetrical arrangement of commuters walking through rain across a large black and grey checkerboard tiled public plaza. Pedestrians holding black umbrellas occupy the left half of the frame, while those holding clear white umbrellas walk across the right half, perfectly matching the alternating floor pattern. Glowing red, blue, and gold light reflections glint off the wet glossy pavement, adding a moody, atmospheric tone to the everyday urban rainy day scene.

I didn't guess the philosophical underpinnings but I voted for this when I saw it because I thought it was quirky, and it reminded me of how people rush across the street when the light changes and how we are all little pawns moving to and fro

That is very encouraging. It keeps me motivated to think quirky for future challenges!

Great scene! The reality being that we are all pawns in some others' unseeable game is a poignant truth [I doubt they are even in control, lol]. Bravo😎👌

I like the quirky ones as long as it still feels a bit connected to the theme

I loved this idea and picked it. Mine was also a knowing ranking tanking, beat yours by 4.

lol, I wouldn't. I definitely don't score well in challenges. Quirky gets middle or lower usually.
