Great! (This is more or less the word used in Greece for what in the English-speaking world is a "Magician" - meaning a STAGE magician, almost certainly NOT using any real magic. Growing up with this word -prestidigitator - , I had difficulty to understand that when english-speaking people used that word - Magician - did NOT mean a "wizard" etc. It was funny...
oh that's interesting. I only recently learned that word. Someone used it in a one-word prompt challenge and I thought what's that? I would have never guessed. I can see why you would make that mistake tho. And some comic books give magicians magical powers too. So if you had seen those, that would add to the confusion, I bet.
You wnat their name to be Faker because they Fake Magic? I don't think that's a title that will go over very well, lol. Of coiurse, if you do have magic and you have to hide it from the world, it's perfect to be a magician. No one would suspect that it was real!
I think it's a great disguise. Like if you're talking to a ghost, just bring your cellphone to your mouth. People will think you're talking on the phone. In modern life, it's easy to hide the supernatural because no one believes in it anyways

..well, what's the problem with "prestidigitators"? That's what they're called here and no one minds it. And, my opinion is that if somebody wanted to hide the fact that he is a real Mage, he wouldn't go near such a job.

That's it! And you know what....it still seem to me a vit off to name somebody a "magician" when that person does not use real magic. Those scenarior you describe, stage magicians knowing real magic, make great stories!!

That last one was a very on-the-spot remark! (well, not "no one" I assure you)
