About this image
This dark fantasy classical oil painting depicts a weary medieval king in gilded armor, holding a bloodied sword as he stands with ragged, wounded soldiers at a crumbling castle portcullis. Smoldering orange fire glows over the battlefield, where a massive monstrous horde advances on a burning kingdom in the distance. The tone is grim and resolute, rendered in rich sepia, gold and deep crimson with dramatic chiaroscuro lighting.
