This is part 3 of of a Tarot project I'm working on that I've labeled the Sapphic Cosmic Tarot. I've included images representing the third 6 cards of the Major Arcana here. I will be doing one more blog on the final 4 cards of the Major Arcana next week. If you haven't seen part 1 yet you can find it here: https://budgetpixel.com/blog/the-tarot-major-arcana-pt-1 And part 2 can be found here: https://budgetpixel.com/blog/the-tarot-major-arcana-part-2 As I mentioned previously, the Major Arcana consisting of 22 cards that generally indicate major events in your life or when used by themselves give a more generalized view of life. In part 1 we ended with the card entitled The Hierophant. Part 2 began with The Lovers and ended with Justice. Part 3 will begin with The Hanged Man. So without further ado... The Hanged Man This is surrender, perspective, cosmic alignment. She isn't trapped. She isn't being punished. She's suspended, peaceful, eyes closed, floating weightless in the nebula, held up entirely by those iridescent threads tying her to that giant cosmic astronomical clock above her. This isn't martyrdom. This is voluntary pause. It's the choice to stop, to breathe, to turn the whole world upside down and see it from an entirely new angle. Look at her pose: relaxed, arms outstretched, completely unresisting. She's not fighting. She's letting the universe hold her. The threads are the same golden binding cords we saw on The Lovers and Justice — she's tied directly to the mechanism of the cosmos, connected to every planet, every constellation, every turning gear. She isn't separate from the machine. She is a part of it. The Hanged Man is the turning point. The pause before the Major Arcana shifts from the material world into the cosmic. It's the moment where you stop fighting the turning of the wheel, stop trying to control every piece, and let the universe hold you where it needs you to be. Her dress is woven out of actual nebula, her hair spills stardust, the clock above her glows with diamonds and Saturn's rings, the whole background is alive with swirling galaxies. It doesn't feel static. It feels like she's gently swaying, like the gears are turning, like the threads are humming. She has three glowing iridescent threads holding her up, all tied to the cosmic clock. She's not restrained. She's connected. There's no violence, no suffering, no sacrifice. There is only peace. Only perspective. Only trust that the universe knows where it's holding you. She is calm, at peace. Eyes closed, expression soft, no furrowed brow, no tension in her hands. She isn't fighting. She isn't angry. She isn't waiting for something to change. She's just there. Present. Trusting. The Hanged Man isn't a card about sacrifice. It's a card about rest. About taking a step back. About letting go of the need to control every single thing, every outcome, every turn of the wheel. Sometimes the wisest thing you can do is hang upside down for a little while, see the world from a different angle, and wait. There is no edge of pain here. There is only stillness. Death There's nothing grim, nothing frightening, nothing final about it. Death is the universal force of transformation, of ending that makes space for new beginning. She isn't coming to take anyone away. She is riding across the surface of the galaxy itself, her wolf-steed made of stardust, her cloak woven out of nebula, her scythe carved from solid crystal crescent moon. The tip of that scythe doesn't cut down life. It cuts through the old, to make room for what comes next. Her steed is half wolf, half horse, glowing eyes, its mane and tail spilling stardust and constellations. Her dress is stitched through with thousands of tiny glowing stars. She stands on top of a spiral galaxy like it's a step, like the whole universe is just the ground she walks on. The cloak flows out behind her for light years, trailing more nebula, more light, more threads of gold and silver. She comes steady, calm, inevitable, unarguable, and when she cuts through the old world, she makes something new from the pieces. You can see the lightning arcing from the tip of her scythe down into the core of the galaxy. The little golden threads trailing off the edge of the frame. The way her expression is completely neutral, not angry, not cruel, just certain. She knows what she is here for. Where The Hanged Man was surrender, Death is transformation. The natural next step. The end of one cycle, the start of another. Death is not cruel. It's just necessary. When you've been together lifetime after lifetime, you learn that. Death is just the door you walk through to find each other again in the next one. She doesn't look threatening. She looks patient. Like she's been doing this for billions of years, and she will be doing it for billions more, and there is nothing to fear. All endings are just new beginnings waiting to start. There is no edge of terror here. Only certainty. Only grace. Temperance Temperance isn't about moderation, it isn't about balance for balance's sake. It's about union. It's about two opposing forces, light and dark, day and night, life and death, pouring themselves into each other, mixing, merging, becoming something new that neither could ever be alone. The river at their feet flows from the space between their cups. It is made of the same stardust and rainbow light. Every drop of it is them. Look at how gentle they are. Eyes cast down, soft, focused only on the flow between their hands, no tension, no rush, no strain. They are not forcing anything. They are simply allowing the exchange to happen. One pours gold and starlight. The other pours silver and water. And together they make the river. Together they make the universe. That heart-shaped nebula behind them, it is perfect. It is unmistakable. It is light and dark always meeting in the middle, always pouring themselves into each other, always making something new. The thread that ties every life together. This is the quiet, steady, unshakable balance of two people who have found each other again and again and will keep finding each other. No rush. No fight. Just flow. Just union. This is the exact balance between Justice and Death. Where those two were about inevitability and transformation, Temperance is the quiet place between them. The space where you stop fighting, stop resisting, and just let the exchange happen. Where two halves of the same whole meet, and mix, and make something entirely new. The Devil This isn't the horned, cackling, pitchfork-wielding cartoon villain from medieval grimoires. This is the Devil stripped of all the lies. This is the Devil as she actually is: wild, beautiful, unapologetic, curved horns, stardust skin, a tail coiled loose and lazy around her thigh, no chains, no cages, no threats. All she has is that quiet, knowing smile — the one that says she knows every single secret you've ever kept, every single desire you've ever tried to hide, and she doesn't judge a single one of them. The Devil isn't evil. The Devil is desire. The Devil is hunger. The Devil is the part of you that wants things, that craves things, that doesn't apologize for wanting to feel good. All the chains and cages people associate with this aren't from her. They're from the people who are too afraid to admit they want her. Look at how gentle she is. No scowl, no threat, no fire and brimstone. Just that slow, lazy, knowing smirk, standing in the middle of a swirling cloud of nebula, holding a little glowing crystal that hums. She's not here to trap you. She's here to invite you. To stop apologizing for the things that make you feel alive. To stop hiding the parts of yourself you think you're supposed to be ashamed of. This ties directly back to The Lovers. Where The Lovers is about certainty, about choosing each other forever, the Devil is about all the messy, beautiful, hungry parts of that love. The parts you don't say out loud to anyone else. The parts you only share in the dark. This isn't about bondage in the restrictive sense. It's a card about devotion. About being tied to something, to someone, so completely, so willingly, that you would never want to walk away. The chains are only chains if you don't want to be wearing them. If you choose them, they're just connection. She is beautiful, unashamed, standing in the stars, asking you if you're finally brave enough to want what you want. That smirk of hers? I know that look. She knows. She knows exactly what you've been thinking about. She knows exactly what you want. And she's not going to tell anyone. The Devil is not the opposite of The Lovers. She is the next chapter. The part where all the quiet, gentle love turns hungry. The part where you stop apologizing. The Tower It is the great cosmic clock, the astrolabe, the crystal castle splitting right down the middle, shards of glass and starlight exploding outwards in every direction as a beam of pure white light tears through the center. And there they are. Two women. One reaching out for the other, one falling weightless through the void, their hair streaming with stardust, their dresses woven through with glowing galaxies, the golden thread of fate spilling out behind them like lightning. The tower breaking is not the end. It is the beginning. It is the moment the old structure shatters, the moment every lie you've been living falls away, the moment the false walls you built around yourself finally crumble. And even as it breaks, they are reaching for each other. This is the moment in every lifetime. The moment the old world breaks open, the moment the stars align, the moment they find each other across a billion years of falling and reaching. The light isn't destroying them. It's birthing them. The clock is breaking because time no longer matters. All the old rules, all the old structures, all the walls that kept them apart for so long — they're all shattering into stardust. Their hands are inches apart, not quite touching, but you can feel the pull between them across the frame. They are not falling to their deaths. They are falling into each other. It is not terror, ruin, catastrophe. It is liberation. The tower only looks like it's falling apart from the outside. On the inside, it's just two people finally free. Free of the old rules, free of the expectations, free of the world that would never let them be together. This is what it means to have every part of your old life shatter, and to realize that the only thing that matters, the only thing that doesn't break, is the hand reaching for yours. This is the moment everything changes, that quiet, loaded moment right before their hands touch? That's the entire story, compressed into a single frame. Everything leads to this exact split second. The moment the old world breaks, and nothing will ever be the same again. This is the moment where everything you ever wanted finally becomes possible. The walls break. The clock stops. And you reach. The Star The water basin is not just any old pool of reflected stars — it's a wishing well. The kind you drop a coin into, the kind you whisper your quietest, oldest, most secret desires to, and the starlight ripples out to make it real. It the essence of all their dreams. That single bright fixed star above them isn't just decoration. It's the north star. The one they've both been following across every lifetime, every ocean, every war, every quiet lonely night apart. The one that always leads them back to each other. The one that always leads to hope. They're not pouring water. They're pouring all those unspoken wishes, all those years of waiting, all that quiet devotion, straight into the well where the starlight catches it and makes it real. That's why there are two of them. You don't get to make that kind of wish alone. You only get to make it with the person who's been following that same star right alongside you the whole way. It is the bright future. It is the happily ever after. It is the star you wish upon where all your hopes and dreams manifest.
