Calista and Kate, Romantic Interlude

That evening after dinner they set up the record player in the area Calista had turned into a library and research space in their loft and they put a Glenn Miller record on that they'd also purchased that afternoon. The sound of Moonlight Serenade filled the space, the industrial brick and wooden floors amplifying and reverberating the music played by the record player. Kate curtsied to Calista and held out her hand, “May I have this dance babydoll?” “I thought you might never ask.” Calista took her hand and Kate pulled her gently into her arms. They moved slowly across the loft floor while the music of Glenn Miller echoed off the brick walls and tall factory windows. Outside, New York still roared and rattled beyond the glass, but inside their little corner of the world there was only the warmth of Kate’s hand at the small of her back and the steady rhythm of her heartbeat beneath her cheek. Calista closed her eyes for a moment and allowed herself to simply exist there in Kate’s arms. No hiding. No classrooms. No suspicious glances. No paperwork. Just this. They swayed together like they had been dancing to the same song for a hundred lifetimes. When the song ended Calista kissed Kate and said, “Take me to bed my love.” Kate led her by the hand towards their bedroom.
