About this image

This dramatic dark fantasy painting by legendary fantasy artist John Howe features a menacing, heavily armored scaled dragon roaring directly at the viewer, glowing orange fire burning deep in its open, fang-filled maw. The foreboding scene is set against a roiling, cloud-choked dusk sky, with misty jagged mountain peaks and a crumbling medieval fortress visible in the atmospheric background. Deep charcoal grey and dark earthy tones contrasted with the bright warm glow of the dragon's fire create an intensely tense, ominous mood ideal for high fantasy, TTRPG, and mythical creature fan content.
