  thanks for the article. She sounds pretty amazing. I can see why it took awhile for her to be recognized tho. She broke all the rules and was very nontraditional. Plus Satsuma and Aizu feud or ill feeling lasted a long time.

  Aizu-wakamatsu? Really? I didn't know that. I knew about the samurai boys because that's a big tourist thing when you visit there but I didn't read about her when I visited. But that was decades ago so maybe before there was a series.

  Yes there was a female Samurai in Aizu who fought with a Snyder carabine during the Bakumatsu. Even got her own Taiga drama series called 'Yae no sakura'.

  oh, Bakumatsu era because she has a rifle and they have bows. I had to think about that for a minute. It looks pretty cool.
