MODEL COMPARISON: GPT 1.5 Low vs. Medium Style block from @justrob. Left image: Best output by GPT 1.5 Low. Right image: Best output by GPT 1.5 Medium. In our opinion, the Low image is nicer. Prompt: A beautiful blonde woman wearing the red shirt of a starship captain. Vermeer + Degas + Star Trek atmosphere, where Vermeer's pearlescent luminosity creates soft radiance through translucent color layering and diffused window-light gradations, Degas' pastel technique produces chalky textural spontaneity via broken strokes and atmospheric edge dissolution, and Star Trek's exploratory optimism infuses clean hopeful illumination with subtle metallic warmth. The fusion manifests as glowing chiaroscuro emerging from shadow, opalescent color transitions with visible granular texture, and serene light that suggests both timeless dignity and forward possibility. Palette balances warm ochres against cool blue-silvers, surfaces shimmer between soft focus and crystalline clarity.

About this image

A painterly digital portrait of a confident woman in a red Starfleet command uniform, featuring a golden delta insignia. The soft, cinematic lighting and airy background create a sci-fi character portrait with a calm, welcoming mood, evocative of Star Trek aesthetics and space exploration.

A refined impressionist portrait of a woman in a red Starfleet tunic with a gold badge, seated near a window. The soft, warm lighting and painterly brushstrokes evoke classic art while nodding to sci-fi aesthetics and Star Trek themes.

My favorite was the Voyager with it's Lost in Space them. I know not many favored that one. I wish I could take painting lessons with Leonardo in a hologram suite. Yeah Galaxy Quest was fun. Typo: shit should have been shirt! I wish we could correct comments! I liked that bit where the mom makes him take out the garbage and he's sputtering but mom, I'm trying to save the world and she's giving a skeptical uh huh vibe. All that nerdy knowledge finally being useful! That was a really fun bit.

I started off with the original when I was a kid. I remember one episode scaring me. The one where all the adults break out in lumps and died. For some reason that episode really scared me. But later I liked Star Trek a lot. Remember in Galaxy Quest with that paranoid guy who was convinced he was going to die because he was a red shit, lol.

  • @CaylaCatz ·

I agree I like the low better but that's partially because the medium came out too orangey for me so it's not qutie red. Hmmm, Captain is yellow and Security is Red. Maybe she's captain of security! Anyways both images are lovely and painterly.

Yeah apparently that was the color scheme from the original 1960s Trek, but I grew up with Trek: TNG, where Picard and Riker and all command officers wore red. And yes, I was a girl nerd haha.

  • @faerierealm ·

Yeah the original had some scary episodes. I remember one where crew members appeared as silent ghosts. Probably why I preferred TNG haha. Galaxy Quest was fun, though, both as spoof and homage.

Sure, will do. Funnily enough I find the opposite on NC. You get the best result on high, medium not too bad and low can be poor

  • @DavidP ·

I guess GPT on NC can be a nit inconsistent. Just generally I have found High delivers most satisfactory results. Just hellish expensive on the credit balance

  • @faerierealm ·

Thanks! And yeah I think we'll also stick with Low. But let us know if you find a use case for Medium...

  • @faerierealm ·

Hmm this was on NC. (We do our SFW there since we still have a lot of credits on NC.)

  • @faerierealm ·

I'm sure Medium has its use cases, just apparently not with this subject matter haha.
