Celtic myth: The Singing Flower of Faerie These flowers sing and speak, open portals to the Otherworld and grow taller than humans. They are said to mark the entrance to the Faerie realms. Added 2/23/26 evening (above written 2/23/26 morning) It is common in Celtic myths for flowers to sing and speak and mark the entrance to the fae worlds. There is no single glowing flower, but there are stories in which glowing magical flowers appear. Here are a few. **Flowers of the Land of Women (Tír na mBan)** Source: **The Voyage of Bran (Imram Brain)**, an early Irish tale preserved in medieval manuscripts. Bran is shown a vision of the Land of Women, where “the blossoms shone with a brightness like the dawn, and the fields were heavy with flowers larger and fairer than any of the mortal world.” The Otherworld woman describes a land where “the trees bend with fruit and bloom, and every branch drips with blossoms of silver light.” **Faerie Flowers in Scottish Sìth Lore** Source: Robert Kirk’s **The Secret Commonwealth** (1691), Kirk writes that the faerie realm contains “meadows of light, where the herbs and flowers shine like lamps, and the blossoms are of a bigness unknown among us.” **Flowers of Annwn** Source: **The Mabinogion**; Lady Charlotte Guest’s 1849 translation is public domain). Annwn is the Welsh Otherworld (Lady Guest translation): “fields more lovely than any of this world, where blossoms glowed like gold and silver.” paraphrasing from medieval Welsh descriptions of Annwn: The Otherworld is described as a place “where flowers bloom in every season, shining with a light of their own.”
