For the Dragon Tattoo Awakens Challenge, the first thing that came to mind was Shi Jin, the Nine-Tattooed Dragon, from Water Margin, also known as Outlaws of the Marsh. Shi Jin was one of my favorite characters in the story, so I initially considered doing something inspired by him. In the end, though, I scrapped the idea and decided to go for something more modern. About this image

This hyperrealistic fantasy battle illustration features a powerful shirtless ancient East Asian warrior covered in intricate black dragon tattoos, wielding an ornate polearm as a smoky, spectral Chinese dragon manifests from his back. Opposing armored enemy soldiers look on in shock, lined up with spears in front of a stone pagoda-style fortress under a dramatic sun-dappled cloudy sky. The gritty, dynamic artwork uses moody earthy dust tones and deep inky black accents to convey a tense, mythic wuxia-style battle atmosphere.
