moon cakes for Luna dusted with mermaid shimmer loving baker's skill ©2026 The baker noticed the moon was waning and looking pale. This would not do. The moon need to be at her brightest for the mid-autumn festival. So she baked the moon's favorite mooncake from her mother's grimoire. She dusted the cake's top with iridescent gratings from a fossilized mermaid's scale. The moon blew the baker a kiss as she ate her favorite treat. The baker's spirit guardian looked on approvingly, his wisps drifting around the room. Her grandmother had made truly spectacular Shenxian Gao (神仙糕 Immortal/Spirit Cake) and so he had adopted the family. As with many things, the culinary gene had skipped a generation and her daughter had not time to cook or bake, preferring instead the wonders of technology. Strangely the daughter had become magicblind and could no longer see himself or the baker's other celestial friends. The young grandson, tho, followed the baker around everyday and already made the best wontons, filling them with deliciousness. The little seven-year-old was very chatty and often peppered the spirits with a thousand questions whenever he saw them. The spirit guardian smiled. He looked forward to being with this family for many generations.
