Guess I should have stuck with my original image that was basically a copy paste of most of the challenge description. Would have stood a good change making top 10 that way. Wouldn't have been happy with that though. Actual entry 20th. https://budgetpixel.com/p/77152

About this image

This intense, dramatic digital artwork depicts a rebellious heavy metal drummer performing on a rain-soaked urban rooftop during a violent thunderstorm, with jagged bright lightning streaking across dark roiling storm clouds above a glowing night city skyline. The sleek black drum kit emblazoned with sharp "Rolling Thunder" lettering sits on wet reflective pavement, alongside the graffiti slogan "Play It Loud Defy The Storm" that reinforces the gritty, high-energy hard rock mood. Deep moody dark cool tones are contrasted by bright lightning flashes and warm stage lighting, creating a visceral, powerful live concert atmosphere.

Cool pic. I think the thing with this one is the lightning is a lot closer so it feels like he's in the storm. With the goth drummer, the lightning looked much further away so it was more like the storm was coming. Here you can see the rain pouring and with her, I saw the water splashes on the cymbals but I didn't see the rain. So the storm was more subtle. I feel like generally subtle doesn't do as well in the challenge although subtle can do well in feed posts because people click to see things bigger and pay more attention to detail. The other thing I have noticed is that instead of seeing the intro image as an example, a lot of people see it as a template and vote more often for people following the template. Also, as BP is international and not everyone is great at reading English and may not want to bother with translating so the image might be the visual explanation for the challenge for nonEnglish speakers so they may be worried straying too far from the image.

Check out the recent feature request exchange on Discord. Yeah, I thought about adding more rain to goth image. I don't think it would have changed much honestly. I think people do use the start image as a template of what to vote for unless something else wows them. I'm just tired of make images for votes on themes I don't like. So, I'm making what I like and not caring about votes. I did improve rain in goth girl and made some videos. Posted on X this morning and they are doing quite well.

If I don't have any idea for theme, I will run pieces of the description and hope it inspires me to go a direction. I can also tell in voting who submitted basically the description pretty easily. Like this guy is GPTs, I gave no description and I'm pretty sure I saw him in at least one other image.

I always do this using the same challenge description to calibrate and see what results I get; I use the cheapest and free generators, and the result is what I call "the generics" when I post. Sometimes good things come out of it.

It is unfortunate how rewarding these low effort submissions with votes teaches people not to stretch their imagination and trust in inspiration. My chef one is a joke, btw. No way I was taking that subject seriously😂

  • @Sealine ·

Agree. Would not have been happy with myself it if I stuck with it. I haven't made one for chef yet. After my initial WTF, I have a general idea.

  • @Sealine ·

I don't either unless they are paired against something I really object to. However, clearly many people are based on the recent top 10.

  • @DavidP ·

Yes, it's also good but I'd pick the one you submitted if presented with both in a matchup - not even a moment's hesitation

  • @Unleashed ·

I really liked your entry, and I'm surprised it didn't do better. If it helps, I'm very close to last place.

  • @CaylaCatz ·

very cool! I'll go take a look at discord. haven't been there on bp in awhile
