About this image

This evocative camping scene is shot from the interior of a warm canvas tent, looking out at a young woman wrapped in a cozy patterned knit shawl sitting beside a large astronomical telescope in an arid red rock desert. The deep dark night sky is alight with dense stars, a luminous swath of purple Milky Way, and a bright green shooting star streaking overhead, while soft golden light from a vintage lantern illuminates the campsite, with rugged desert buttes rising on the distant horizon. The quiet, awe-struck mood captures the magic of remote backcountry stargazing and amateur astronomy under a pristine dark sky.
