**Cthulhu Idol** Original topic for QTing - **Book Illustrations** --- The inspiration from this stems from a conversation with my dear friend @SkarletFever In comments on this image https://budgetpixel.com/p/48772 I asked about 'The Call of Cthulhu'. I learned it was a reference to a short story written by HP Lovecraft. @southamericanmyth let me know of his topic QT: H.P Lovecraft's works https://budgetpixel.com/p/33228 I'd never seen that post but worth a look --- I've never read any Lovecraft, but my son who is an avid read and has been collecting classic books, has an anthology of his short stories. He also knew all about Cthulhu and educated me on the nature of this existential horror. So I read this story over the weekend. The style was interesting and the story suitably horrific. Central to it is the most disturbing idol that is the subject of this post. The impression is not perfect, as per Lovecraft's description, but a reasonable artist's impression.

Have to say, it didn't appeal to me. Maybe I am too trained on a more modern style. But did appreciate masterful use of words. It was an interesting read

Not sure why that might be - maybe before you have developed your taste.

Indeed - right up your street. As for the inspector, maybe another time.

My pleasure. Call of Cthulhu of course - as per your recommendation

Can't say either.... except perhaps, teens are more impressionable and excitable. I remember , i had a GREAT craze for the Cthulhu Mythos (OK, I STILL have 🙂) and reading in various stories (HPL's and other's) pages with lists of The CM Deities made me jump up & down from excitement. Now, I say, c'mon, this is just boring... Write some plot here, already! 😃
My mind always tends to conflate such statue imagery with the story "Pickman's Model", even though I know full well that the titular artist in that tale wasn't a sculptor.
very cool statue. I came to Lovecraft late too and only read a couple stories although I've become interested in the dreamwalker Carter. Shhh, don't tell panos, lol.
Ironically, while I've read most things Lovecraftian, for some reason I'd never read "Call of Cthulhu" itself. And I finally corrected that omission last night.
