This is a story about our need to belong, to be accepted: the ache of loneliness felt more intensely as a stranger introduced to an established group. But it's equally about empathy: the simple, unremarkable act of one person choosing to notice. Haruka's story isn't fanciful drama. It's reality. The architecture of loneliness is small moments, moments of being unseen, unheard, ignored. So too is its undoing. Haruka's world has been turned upside down. Circumstances have taken her from a familiar home and school, away from the company and care of her friends. She feels isolated, disconnected, her sadness builds as she sits alone in the cafeteria. Until a stranger sees her pain, reaches out, and through one simple act everything begins to change.
