Actually it is inspired from Kurma Avatar, it is avatar of the Hindu preserver deity, Vishnu, who manifested as a gigantic tortoise to save the universe. During the Samudra Manthan (churning of the ocean of milk) for the nectar of immortality, Kurma supported Mount Mandara on his back to prevent it from sinking, ensuring the cosmic churning continued.
