Soccer players in numbered jerseys stand in a line before the goal

I haven't stopped crying for the last few hours. These poor girls could face death when they go home. Their crime? In protest they refused to sing their national anthem at a soccer match. This is Iran, this is the freedom we should all be protesting for, the end of the most brutal and wicked regime.

About this image

A tense war-time scene shows a soccer team lined up in numbered uniforms facing away from the camera, with armed soldiers aiming nearby. The silhouettes against a sunset create a dramatic mood, blending sports imagery with conflict to convey the theme of risk and threat to athletes.

Powerful image. And Iran is indeed a brutal and wicked regime, but it is not the only one. How many should we topple, and how many of our own should we sacrifice to do so? Like you, I pray that these athletes are granted asylum here or elsewhere, but I STRONGLY oppose sacrificing our sons (and daughters, too) to topple regimes where it's unlikely democracy can even take hold after we've done so. Again, I'm all for granting asylum, but our Feed will become flooded with anti-war imagery if our country makes the terrible mistake of putting 'boots on the ground.' Because they're not boots, they're our sons and daughters!

I guess there are times when a Government will weigh up the odds of success. Will they go, or just walk away. War is ugly, brutal and horrible; yet we have to ask ourselves, if we do nothing and thousands more die, can we live with that?

That is so sad! 😭But brave of them to stand up to a regime that has treated them so brutally. Very poignant and well done!

Thank you Matt. I still can't believe it. I hope they are granted asylum here
