Flight Deck… or Fabrication?
By Melanie Spicer
Real or AI… can you spot the difference? With every AI-generated image, no matter how breathtaking, there’s always a tell. Sometimes it’s loud. Sometimes it’s a quiet little ripple in reality that your brain notices before you consciously do. It might be lighting that doesn’t quite behave the way physics says it should. Reflections that forget what they’re supposed to mirror. Fabric folds that look painted rather than pulled by gravity. Or tiny mechanical details that feel almost right… but not engineered-right. The fascinating part is how good AI has become at first glance. You can get mood, era, atmosphere, even film stock vibes so convincing they slip straight past your guard. But linger a moment longer and the illusion starts to fray at the edges. So here’s today’s challenge. This image is AI-generated. Tell me why. What are the giveaways you can spot? Big or small, obvious or subtle. I’m curious to see what everyone’s eye picks up.
