Design Challenge and Beyond

Inspired by @germancowboy blog where he discussed images extending beyond the Design Challenges at BudgetPixel. First, I appreciate all of you who took the time click this. I don't promote my blogs or tag a bunch of people so I would really appreciate it if you take the time to clap this blog (max 20 times per person allowed). I can't recall exactly when I started sharing DC entries on X, but I have always had a crossover between my BudgetPixel content and my X content. Managing two platforms can be a lot so the more overlap the better for my sanity. However, I can pinpoint when I started using DC entries as inspiration for songs. I entered the Gravity Reversed DC and it wasn't until after voting started that I realized I entered the wrong image! I was devastated as I really thought I stood a chance at winning the challenge. Spoiler Alert - I won with wrong image (intended entry left, actual entry right). My caption for this challenge was 'The moment gravity lost its grip' and I couldn't help but think that would make a great song and that's exactly what I created. I then posted this on X where it went on to earn me credits on BP through the Creator Program and became my most viewed post (at the time). I placed 8th in that challenge but again my caption 'Grace and temptation share the same shadow' as well as the image inspired me to create a song called 'One Shadow'. https://budgetpixel.com/p/62802 I followed the same pattern and this time created new images based on song lyrics and created two short video clips matched to lyrics (albeit, not very exciting clips) This one on X didn't perform quite as well but was still enough to earn some credits here at BudgetPixel. https://x.com/Sealine752/status/2078990268657746045?s=20 The next image/caption combination came from the Living Graffiti challenge where I placed fourth. My caption was 'Dream big, reality will follow' which became a song with those lyrics as the hook. Don't spend too much time looking at the image, it has its flaws and not sure if this was the exact one I entered. Song here: https://budgetpixel.com/p/65944 For this image I ended up creating a few additional images and chose one for a video clip. This was posted on X also and did okay, but nothing to write home about. The fourth DC entry image and caption to inspire a song was 'Desert Stargazer' with the caption 'Lost in the stars, found in each other.' I finished 11th this challenge. I don't believe this image ever made it to X, and I never created a video but I was very happy with the song 'Where the Stars Come Down.' https://budgetpixel.com/p/72405 I have two more songs (so far) that were inspired by DC entries, but I think those will wait for the next blog. If you've actually made it this far, thank you. Some final thoughts on the Design Challenges. These can be hard on a person. You put yourself out there to be compared and judged based on no real criteria. It is a delicate balance trying to put enough into your entry that it stands out but isn't so far off it gets lumped into 'off theme'. Logically, I know that my placement in DC challenge can vary wildly based on a number of factors. Logically, I know I can't put too much weight into the results of the challenge. Reality is they can really bother me and it's something I'm working on. The bottom line is I enjoy the challenges. I enjoy creating entries (some themes way more than others). I enjoy checking in to see how I'm doing (more so when I'm doing better). I like seeing what clever and unique ides other people have created and entered. And most of all, I know many of these images inspired by the challenges will have a life beyond the challenge. I would love to see more people jump in and give these challenges a try!
