I've been working hard on my Animals of light series of music videos. It always makes me happy when other people enjoy them, even if my following is small. I know a lot of people hate AI, and the datacenter problem IS concerning. It concerns me, too. The thing is, I don't think AI is going to ever go away now that it's here. People use it even when they don't think they are. Some of my favorite songs are AI generated, and I JUST found that out. That genie isn't going back in the bottle. So how do we work with AI and still be mindful of the environment?

You are certainly right, dear Anya: AI definitely belongs in our lives, and has for a long time. Let's try to make the very best of it and enjoy this incredibly useful tool! Beautifu image!!! 👋

AI is definitely not going back in the genie bottle. It's my hope, though, that AI generation companies will eventually be forced to give some of their profits to the people and not just to their shareholders. After all, the only reason they can do what they do--generate images, video, even music--is because AI has literally trained on everything humans have ever done. So, it's only right that they give back to humanity, which provided their training data. It's doubtful that will ever happen in a hyper-capitalistic country like the US, but hopefully in time the more progressive countries in Europe and elsewhere will force the big tech companies to give back, much like how Norway forces the oil companies that operate within its borders to pay some of their profits into a fund that supports all Norwegians.

@anyafoxx short and to the point. Once more how we generate energy, use natural resources is front and centre. I suppose it always has been since discovery of the steam engine, then petrol engine. I want and try to be hopeful, but as @faerierealm eluded to, the capitalist system that drives the making of more and more money at the expense of all else is such a huge influence, not just in this area (think pharma and the medical industry). So far easier to be pessimistic at where all this ends.

I think AI can be an incredibly useful tool, but I also believe in responsible use of data centers using resources like water and electricity. I think we need t find a good balance. I LOVE AI. Love love it. But I also love nature, so we need to find a good mix of both.

Frankly speaking? The general population cannot do much. You need firm legislation for change to happen. But too firm and the entire country/group of countries (EU) will suffer as a whole.
