Two panel comic of a couple reacting to a Ford truck completely covered in swarms of lovebugs
This vibrant humorous two-panel comic uses a bold graphic novel art style, set on a sunny tropical palm-lined roadside. The comedic punchline highlights the absurd extreme of lovebug buildup on a truck, even after the driver only took a short trip to buy milk. The light, playful tone pokes fun at the well-known nuisance of southern US lovebug season.

If you don't know what lovebugs are, they are a plague that descends into Florida twice a year. Lovebugs are tiny black flies with a red midsection who spend their brief adult lives flying around attached butt-to-butt like they’re in a very committed, very public relationship. They don’t bite or sting. They just exist to mate, die, and decorate your car. Twice a year—usually late April through May, then again late August through September—Florida gets a few weeks of them in biblical numbers. Highways turn into a low-altitude orgy. They love heat, sunlight, and exhaust fumes, so they treat I-95 like a singles bar. Drive anywhere and your windshield, grill, and hood get plastered with splatters of bug couples. Leave the mess on too long and the acidic leftovers can etch your paint. Radiators clog. Visibility drops. Car washes do record business. My image is an exaggeration, but not as much as you'd think.

Driving across the state that time at 75MPH, it sounded like a hard rain. It was awful. The carcasses block your view, and the wipers just turn them into a goo that the washers can't even begin to clean off.

😂 OMG! Thankfully they are not nearly as bad in recent years, but I still remember that drive halfway across the state and the absolute carnage. That time your care was pretty darn close to these images 🤢🤮!

Trying to scrape that gunk off with the gas station squeegy halfway there because I couldn't see anymore...We'll need to schedule our road trips accordingly from now on. Or rent a car. Or take your car...😁

Ha! I remember you had mentioned those to me some time ago. Boy, what a plague!!

beastxyz

I can imagine! Sometimes we have such thing in the spring, in a much, much smaller scale. So, having it in such a huge scale as you describe?....

JMN

Gross. Sounds like a new Netflix series: Love, Death & Carwash. lol😂

Sealine

Only if you're the one washing my car!
