Anime shrine maiden under red torii gate watches a loaded offroad jeep with a large cat passenger, Mount Fuji in the dista...
This whimsical post-apocalyptic anime illustration depicts a young traditional Japanese shrine maiden holding a straw broom, standing beneath a weathered red wooden torii gate as a heavily loaded rugged off-road jeep approaches up a sunlit stone mountain path. A wide-eyed chibi-style white cat sits atop stacked travel supplies on the jeep roof, while the background features a ruined abandoned city skyline and the iconic snow-capped peak of Mount Fuji under bright, clear skies. The warm painterly art style blends traditional Japanese folklore, cozy fantasy, and post-apocalyptic adventure themes, with soft golden sunlight casting long shadows across the cobblestone trail.

- apocalyptic hope - holding on old ways the world ends but faith endures belief's not easy ©2026 haiku orig published on cactus_haiku instagram Yesterday, my little guy was looking for duct tape among apocalyptic ruins. Today he is running supplies and food up the mountain to his friends. Despite the world lying in ruins below, his friends have their faith and help those they make it to the shrine's sanctuary. He gives what he scavenged freely to them. They helped him when he needed it most and in return, he helps when he can. He's not the only one. For an unknown shrine, there's a lot of traffic on this dirt road. Among other things, the shrine houses the only healers for miles around. Even the gangs leave them alone because the healers just do their best with what supplies they have on whoever comes in injured or sick with no questions asked and only a light coating of philosophy given.

cool! I'm glad you like it. I don't know if I'll do anything with it. I just thought it was a nice contrast. I feel like we ignore the sanctuaries, places of belief, places of healing in postapocalyptic stories. So I liked my duct tape guy and today I thought what if he was a scavenger but also someone who pays it forward (or pays it back as the case might be) and came up with this.

awesome short CC; this world building/lore easily has potential for a short story series.

Oh that's very cool!

It's so funny that you mention that; literally the next blog I'm dropping is all about the "Temple-servers" in my Neo-Tokyo setting, narrated from the perspective of the Chief Miko, Reika. Been in stalling pattern with other chapters and editing for a lil bit recently.😅

you are very welcome!
