The English Ballad "Matty Groves" (Part 4) (Pictures correspond to verses below) 1. I cannot rise and I dare not rise, I fear ‘twould cost my life.
For you have got two bitter swords and I ain’t got a knife, I ain’t got a knife. 2. Oh yes, I have two bitter swords, they cost me deep in the purse, But you shall have the better one and I shall have the worst, I shall have the worse. 3. Firstest stroke little Matty struck, he hurt Lord Arlyn sore. And the nextest stroke Lord Arlyn struck, little Matty struck no more, Little Matty struck no more. 4. Rise up, rise up, my gay young wife. Draw on your wedding clothes.
And tell me do you like me best, or like you Matty Groves
Or the now dead Matty Groves. 5. She lifted Matty’s dying head, and kissed from cheek to chin. It’s Matty Groves I’d rather have, than Arlyn and all his kin, Than Arlyn, and all his kin. 6. He took his lady by the hand, and he dragged her through the hall. And with his sword, he cut off her head, and he stove it again’ the wall He stove it again’ the wall. To be concluded...

About this image

This hyperrealistic medieval fantasy painting captures a tense, dramatic confrontation in a sunlit stone castle bedchamber, where a shirtless blonde man wrapped in a linen cloth gestures defensively toward an armored knight holding drawn longswords, with a distraught woman in a red cloth wrap standing beside a carved four-poster bed. Warm golden sunbeams stream through leaded glass windows, casting dappled light over dark carved wood furnishings, armored guards waiting in a Gothic arched entryway, and rich, moody period details evoking classic Arthurian legend and medieval court drama.

This rich, painterly medieval fantasy illustration depicts a tense, charged confrontation inside an ornate royal castle bedchamber, lit by warm glowing fireplace light. A stern armored lord wearing a red lion heraldry tabard and fur-trimmed green cloak holds a drawn sword out to a bare-chested blonde man, while a distressed draped woman stands clasping her hands on the carved four-poster bed between them, with armored guards observing from the Gothic stone doorway. The moody atmospheric color palette of deep burgundy, forest green, and warm golden firelight evokes classic Arthurian legend, medieval romance, and epic fantasy narrative themes.

This dramatic classic-style fantasy painting captures a tense, high-stakes confrontation inside a fire-lit medieval castle bedchamber. A bearded knight clad in chainmail, red lion tabard and fur-lined cloak holds a drawn sword, facing a muscular blonde man draped only in a linen sheet, who has an enchanted levitating longsword floating at his side, while a distressed woman in a white gown watches in shock near an ornate carved four-poster bed. Warm hearth glow contrasts cool twilight light filtering through a tall gothic window, amplifying the charged, dramatic mood of the Arthurian-style historical fantasy scene.
