That evening they sat on the terrace of the villa they were all sharing. The breeze was just strong enough to carry the scent of salt on the air, the surf below murmured just loud enough to remind them of the vast sea beyond. Genevieve quietly spoke, “My grandmother once said that places often remember people.” After another moment Marie added, “Some people might call that reincarnation.” That drew a sharp look from Calista and Kate and then they glanced at each other, finally Calista spoke again, “What if you felt like you shared that experience with somebody.” Marie looked at them both, reading them not through magic or mysticism but with decades of lived experience. “Then I would say if two souls shared such an experience that they must be very special and love one another very deeply. My dears, I would hope that if such a thing were possible I would spend every life with my dear Genevieve.” Genevieve looked at her with the strong affection of somebody she’d built a beautiful life with, “Ma cherie I would want the same for us as well.”
