Here again you mythology fella JC, bringing again an epic blog post, this time the third part of my Norse Mythology serie. Lets start AESIR: THOR Son of Odin, husband to Sif, protector of the gods and humanity, known as the god of thunder, sky, storms and strenght, often engaging battles against the giants/jötunn, his most notable adversary is Jörmungandr, the serpent monster, whom he is destined to fight during Ragnarok, the end of the world. His possesions are the mighty hammer Mjölnir, associated with thunder and lightning, wich it can be return to him after being thrown, a magical belt who doubles his strenght, an iron glove necessary to wield Mjölnir, and his chariot pulled across the sky by two goats. HEIMDALL Son of Odin and the "nine sisters" (yes, he born from 9 mothers), he is the watchman of the gods, he has powerful senses and low resting time "requires less sleep than a bird", he constantly vigilates Bifrost (a rainbow-bridge that connects Midgard, wich humans live, with Asgard), he features a sounding horn to alert the arrival of the giants/jotunn, and the beginning of Ragnarok, in wich he is destined to kill each other with Loki, his nemesis. VANIR: Lytir An obscure ancient deity who pre-dates Aesir, associated with fortune-telling, prophecy, divination. There is very few info and surviving sources letting more about interpretation about this ancient deity, one of those things is that his cult and worship was linked to völvas (seereses, norse/germanic oracles), and in one surviving text he is mentioned togheter Vanir god Freyr, giving the theory he also belongs to the Vanir tribe. OTHERS: FROST GIANTS / HRIMTHURSAR: A class of jötnar associated with cold, ice and chaos, enemy of the Aesir, also destined, along with other giants, to fight the gods during Ragnarok. SURTR A primordial fire giant, ruler of Muspelheim, a realm of blaze, a fundamental agent of the Ragnarok and the end of world's end. He is a primordial being who existed before the creation of the world, he is destined to lead the fire giants and breaks the Bifrost bridge, also to fight Freyr and kill him because he lacks of his magic sword, meanwhile Surtr features a powerful blazing sword. SKADI A powerful jötunn associated with winter, mountains, bow hunting and skiing, daughter of the giant Thjazi, who was killed by the Aesir because he kidnapped the goddess Idunn, she went armed to Asgard to avenge or ask compensation, Aesir to avoid fight accepted the demands, deciding a god to marry but just watching his feet, she pick Njord feet thinking it was Baldr, the marriage with Njord was short because he didnt stand cold mountains and she ocean shores, later she marry Odin. Also she is involved in the punish of Loki, particulary the snake venom part. End
