I've already entered the next challenge, but after that I think I need a break. I can't handle the hope when I see the high ELO and then watching it crash all day long to finish 4th, again. I kept nearly the same win/loss ratio all day long (34-36 more wins than loses) yet my ELO dropped 60 points. Wish I could take it less seriously, but that only works for me when I have no hope to begin with. This scenario has happened to me multiple times.

That’s exactly why I stopped posting in the challenges; I only post when I have nothing else to do and no hope of making the top ten! It’s really frustrating to see an image you’ve poured time and effort into—creating a whole story around it—go completely unnoticed.

Sealine

Agree. I entered the next challenge as soon as it opened because I already had an image. And maybe I’ll get to the point where I can not put in effort and not care about the results, but that time isn’t now.

Sigh... I get your frustration. Not sure if the rating system will ever move out of the ELO model. Sad that we will be missing your creative take in the challenges.

Sealine

I could see that being beneficial, unfortunately I am incapable of sticking to that unless I see early on I’m doing terrible 😆

Sealine

It's probably the smart way to go but I'm incapable of doing it for some reason.

Sealine

Yeah. I'm done trying to explain why ELO is a terrible system to rate something subjective.

panos

That's why I NEVER watch this things.... my heart is weak and my PC too breakable 😀

panos

Yeah... believe me I know about such things... 😏

Sealine

That’s exactly it. My frustration is when you get a high score earlier it’s hard to maintain since you are expected to win nearly every match up based on rating. People vote based on a whim and the losses really hurt and wins do next to nothing. With the Swiss system in chess you get matched with similar ratings as the tournament progresses, that’s impossible here with so few challenge entires. I’ve tried to not care about a broken system, but I’ve only been successful sometimes. It’s not worth the stress.

Does the drop in ELO match drop in win-rate - hard to say. Still a lot of luck in the matchups and current ELO of what you are paired against when you win or lose. That influences the point gained or lost. But we've been over this so often - I just enter for the fun of creating and am totally not attached to the result given how ineffective the system is and the fact that I am not interested in trying to appeal to the masses.
