Encountered several in my time in the Southeast United States, especially in Florida & Georgia. Peaceful and graceful, they were near extinction mostly due to encounters with boat propellers. As awareness rose and speed limits on the waterways fell, their numbers grew, though they may never be as plentiful as they once were. Magnificent and peaceful. A true sight to behold in person!
