This "weird" edition of the "Infantino" world cup has ended, bringing us annoying hydratation breaks among other things, but that will be a talk for another blog post, because today is the turn for my picks of the best team of the cup! Goalkeeper: Thibout Courtois🇧🇪: Maybe a polemic choice because Belgium didnt make it to semis, although there is a merit on that, Belgium dressroom was a doubt, so much rumours around, a disaster incoming in any time, Courtois did an outstanding job saving his net despite the low level defenders team mates he had. His abscence due injury, doomed Belgium, an inestable team that went further than i expected. Defense: Rightback Pedro Porro🇪🇦: most consistent key players of the champion team, were both sidebacks, Porro being a dominator of the right flank, fine first touch, collective play, association, covering and joining the attack! Centerbacks Lisandro Martinez🇦🇷: the orchestrator of the argentine play and comeback, despite not being too tall, he is strong, have a skill to clear the ball away or deliver a good long ball. His injury in the final, made Argentina team look worse, neither of the bench defenders who came could built game from the depth. Pau Cubarsí🇪🇦: a delicatessen of centerback, a well educated feet, good first touch, through passes, clean clears, clean tackles and ball recovery, always on good spot and crucial for Spain's high defensive line. Most awesome thing he is very young! Marc Cucurella🇪🇦: the best player of the world cup in my heart, i have a weakness for leftbacks, and Cucurella had the prowess to join the Olympus of leftbacks, high endurance stamina, speed, good marking, very good joining the attack and arriving to the rival box. Midfield defensive midfield Rodri🇪🇦: the winner of the wc's MVP, previous Ballon D'or, a solid defensive midfield, the perfect link between centerbacks and midfielders, always delivering accurate passes, building the game, playing on first touch, canceling oponent attack building, being an extra defender or a extra midfielder depending on the occasion. Key role on spanish tactic and stronger than previous defensive midfielders like Busquets. Mixed/centerfield Jude Bellingham🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿: a talisman of England's tactic, a good physical worker midfield, with a good ball recovery, tackles, good passes and sense of teamplay, he knows how to appear by surprise on rival box, with a speed and scoring instinc unusual on players on his field position. Michael Olise🇨🇵: a future star, possibly one of the players who will fill the place of Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. Despite he is a excellent winger, Didier Deschamp placed him as a creative midfielder due the amount of good players on his main position. Anyway he managed to always generate play for his team mates, manage to make scoring opportunities, being succesful at scoring and assisting, granted by his good dribilng skills, technique, fast paced moves, long distance shoots, but i have to say his out of position role got visible and punished by the rival the the last matches. Forwards Rightwinger: Lionel Messi🇦🇷: what more it can be said about him, he is the main explanation of why Argentina could make it to the final, whol Scaloni teamplay and strategy gravitate around him, like moons to a planet. Centerforward: Erling Haaland🇸🇯: Deadliest goalscorer of the present, in a era in wich the classic 9 has been dissapear and more and more scarce, Haaland had all the qualities of a perfect striker, good at scoring inside the box, outside the box, left foot, right foot, headers, penalties, and a unusual good level skills and speed for his size, a nightmare for rival centerbacks, a player who can define a game for his own. Leftwinger: Kylian Mbappé🇨🇵: although he played as centerforward in this cup, i accomodate him in a position he used to play and sometimes drop during world cup. He is the goalscorer of this world cup, and surely will be the historical goalscorer. Outstanding speed, dribble accuracy and shoot efectiveness, every little defensive mistake by the opponent would be deadly with Mbappé on front. Players i had in consideration but didnt include in the team Goalkeeper Yassine Bounou🇲🇦: or "Bono" for friends, possibly the best on terms of goalkeeping qualities and skills, they had the bad luck of had a pretty hard group and pretty hard route, France overpowered them, still Bono did a fine job. Defenders Dayot Upamecano & William Salibah🇨🇵: France's centerback duo, although i dont like too much both players on their clubs, they are good defenders but not top notch, but on their national team they improve their level and cover their flaws, Salibah injury was a key loss for France. I think both of them are outmatched by Pau Cubarsi Midfielders Declan Rice🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿: the balance of England's midfield, a player who is tactically ordered, a key piece who can grant England goals by his long shoot and kick free, althought not on the skill and tactical level of Rodri Enzo Fernández🇦🇷: a player who can play tough and can play elegantly, his long shoot accuracy can resolve games by his own, but his excesive toughness played a bad for him during the final, Argentina had low chances to fight Spain, and Enzo expulsion reduced it to the minimum. Forwards Ousmane Dembele🇨🇵: fast destibilizing player who in game from game could make goals imposible to defend for the rivals, a very good numbers on goals, assistances and chances created for his team, but a bit more irregular than other strikers, when he is on fire he is a living nightmare for rival defenses, when he is not is just a ghost roaming through the field. Harry Kane🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿: top class number 9, and a modern one, who knows how to be in the spot to score, how to create oportunities for goals and when to drop back to make space or play for their team mates. Just a little step down on level and numbers of Haaland, Mbappé and Messi.
