**Prom Night** Erin knew how to disappear in plain sight—her smile a thin ribbon as she stood in a corner of the marquee, eyes never lingering too long on Stella. Stella, who lit up the dancefloor without trying. And Erin? Always the wallflower. Sipping her drink, pretending to be okay. Pretending not to want. She had grown good at pretending. When the music paused, Stella—*Stella*, of all people—sauntered over. “I need a smoke,” she said, like they were old friends. “Coming too?” They crossed to the edge of the playing field, grass damp underfoot. Stella handed her a cigarette, then looked straight at her. “Are you going to kiss me?” Erin blinked. A prank? A joke? But Stella wasn’t laughing. “Don’t be shy,” she said. So Erin leaned in. It felt scary. Almost surreal. And clumsily, blissfully right.
