Soft warm natural light streams through a paned window onto a 19th century woman in a lace trimmed Victorian dress carefully carving a botanical design into a wood printing block. The rich vintage workspace is filled with leather bound botany books, hand drawn plant illustrations, dried flower specimens, and antique scientific tools. The mood is quiet, focused, and nostalgic, with warm cream, oak brown, and muted sage tones throughout the sunlit room.

Some Characters from my forthcoming Fantasy Novel *The Hidden Realm* Melanie Ashcombe, 31, is Arthur Ashcombe’s elder sister and mistress of the family home in Mannamead, Plymouth. Intelligent, warm-hearted, perceptive, and possessed of a dry sense of humour, she has remained especially close to Arthur since the deaths of their parents. Melanie works as a botanical illustrator and amateur naturalist, filling her workroom and conservatory with drawings, specimens, notebooks, and plants. Unlike her practical younger brother, she never entirely dismissed their mother’s old stories about the mysterious people beyond the hills of Dartmoor. When Elowen unexpectedly enters their lives, Melanie quickly becomes her confidante, protector, and closest human female friend, helping the bewildered Elf navigate Victorian clothing, customs, and society. Beneath her playful teasing of Arthur, Melanie is courageous and fiercely loyal—and ultimately becomes an important bridge between the Human and Elven worlds.
