This decorative antique-style vocabulary poster features definitions for the rare words peregrinate, ecdyasiast, and nictitate, each paired with a detailed hand-drawn watercolor illustration. The piece uses a warm muted earth tone palette on faux aged parchment, framed by elaborate filigree scrollwork borders in a late 1890s scientific illustration aesthetic. Each panel includes thematic art: a wandering hiker, costumed burlesque performer, and anatomical eye diagram to visualize the word meanings.
Glamorous 1940s traveler holding sticker-covered vintage suitcases inside a retro train station
This cinematic nostalgic portrait features a glamorous mid-century woman with victory roll hair, black feather boa, and sequined gown waiting in a sunlit vintage railway depot. Warm golden hour light filters through tall depot windows, illuminating weathered teal tile walls, retro travel signage, and well-traveled leather luggage covered in international destination stickers. The mood is dreamy and full of quiet wanderlust, evoking 1940s cross-continental travel.

Yesterday I asked people to guess the meaning of these 3 words. I hope you all had fun with them. Here are the answers! Interestingly Ecdysiast was coined in April 1940. Mencken created the word at the request of Baltimore striptease dancer Georgia Sothern, who wanted a more dignified or high-sounding label for her profession. It is derived from the Ancient Greek word ekdysis (meaning a "stripping", "casting off", or the zoological shedding of skin/moulting, like a snake or crab). https://budgetpixel.com/p/99822
