Vintage Fruit Label - Style Prompt
By 5ibah
I think a strength and something I enjoy most about this community is the generosity of other creators. So many people openly share prompts, methods, and tips and I've learned so much from you. I've always adored vintage fruit box labels, advertising ephemera, and other commercial artwork from the late 1800s through the mid-1900s. I love the bold typography, rich colors, decorative borders, and the craftsmanship that went into these printed pieces. They're small works of art that were originally created for orchards to appeal to the commercial buyers. Many labels included pin-up beauties to advertise the fruit, (which I love), but there were also orchards, landscapes, birds and animals used as well (check reference articles). Just seeing the creativity on BP is inspring. I wanted to share a new style block template that may help anyone interested in creating vintage label-style artwork. How to Use the Template Think of your subject. A fruit variety - e.g. Tasmanian Cherries and a pin-up beauty, or maybe a fictional canned product / brand. Add a vintage label style block: "Authentic 1880–1950 commercial fruit crate label artwork, chromolithograph printing, vintage paper label illustration, bold hand-painted advertising art, decorative border frame, large display typography, saturated spot colors, lithographic texture, aged printed-paper surface, collectible ephemera aesthetic, early 20th century packaging design." Add any sections specific to your image: Color palette Branding elements Decorative typography Other - choose ideas from below Add the Subject The subject creates the image, while the style block helps guide it toward the look and feel of authentic vintage commercial art. Example Prompt Vintage fruit crate label from the Commercial Art golden age (1880–1950), chromolithographic print on paper, designed for produce-export packaging. Large central illustration surrounded by decorative typography and ornamental framing. Hand-painted advertising artwork with simplified forms, strong outlines, saturated ink colors, dramatic lighting, idealized scenery, romanticized agriculture, premium-brand marketing aesthetic. Bright yellow, orange, red, green and blue spot-color palette. Dense graphic design, symmetrical layout, elegant period lettering, lithographic texture, slight print aging, subtle paper patina, collectible ephemera quality, highly detailed but graphic rather than photographic, authentic pre-digital commercial illustration. Color Palette: bright citrus-orange, lemon-yellow, apple-red, emerald-green, cream-white, deep navy, warm black linework, limited spot-color printing, chromolithographic color separation, vibrant ink coverage, vintage commercial print palette. Typography: prominent fruit-crate branding, large arched display lettering, decorative Art Deco and late-Victorian commercial typography, integrated logo panel, ornamental banners, export-grade packaging graphics, balanced label layout. Surface / Print: printed on aged coated paper stock, chromolithograph ink texture, slight misregistration, subtle edge wear, minor fading, authentic vintage label patina, preserved collector-condition ephemera. Subject: Tasmanian Cherry, Pinup Beauty --- Note it does matter where the punctuation is spaced in the subject. Model I have used GPT2 for these images. Comment: Both Flux Krea and Krea Medium models were not as good as GPT2 at creating text. References If you'd like to read more about the original fruit box labels, I like these references 1.
