The Legend of Tren Tren Vilu and Cai Cai Vilu

Legend of Ten Tren and Cai Cai Vilu myth from the austral lands of Chile 🐍 In Mapuche people mythology and cosmovision (and also later Chiloé island mythology) Ten Tren Vilu and Cai Cai Vilu, were giant snakes, sometimes refered as spirits or gods, usually Ten Tren mentioned as a goddess, she was related to earth and fertility, protector of the earth, the flora and fauna. Cai Cai Vilu was a god/spirit related to water, ruler of the sea and all sea-dwellers. The legend tells, one day Cai Cai was very angry towards humanity for their ungrateful to the gifts ocean give, and decided to flood the earth. Humans asked protection to Ten Tren, she lifted humans and earth animals in her back to not drown, she transformed some animals into birds so he can fly, others in marine mammals, and others in mermaids/merman so they could survive. Most notable Ten Tren made the earth shake and elevate up, forming hills and mountains so humans could not be reach by Cai Cai flood, forming Chile and austral America continent shape of islands, hills, mountain range. On later myths, Ten Tren eventually also get angry with humankind, making earth shake and creating the volcano eruptions. The myth version on Argentina has few difference, mostly changing both snakes parents or both snakes being brothers. In most version, Ten Tren end victorious and Cai Cai defeated, the battle take long years, in other version they are still in a endless battle, every earthquake and tsunami were considered a struggle or strikes between both snake gods.
