Tea with Alice and the Cheshire Cat Special Guest Star: Elizabeth Douglas author of "The Cake and Biscuit Book", 1903, London She authored 3 cookbooks. Her approach is very practical and she gives advice on ingredients. When she says don't use eggs that are too fresh, I'm assuming she means fresh from the hen as many people had chickens in 1903. The beginning of her book gives an equivalent table like "4 cups flour = 1 quart or 1 lb." If you want to give her cakes a whirl, her book is in the public domain on Gutenberg.org. let me know how it turns out! https://gutenberg.org/cache/epub/68137/pg68137-images.html

Nice,I'm sure that her recipes are really good, probably better than the ones now. No preservatives, no colorings, no E numbers.
