Catwalk: walking in the Hoh rainforest in Olympic National Park suggested by @user_google_961350 tomorrow's walk suggested already very cool! I didn't even know we had rainforest in the USA. I thought that was an Amazon thing. It's 24 square miles so it's huge. The Western hemlock trees growing there are not poisonous. The Western Hemlock tree (Tsuga heterophylla) new spring needles, twigs, and inner bark are edible, and were historically used by Native Americans. Do not confuse it with **poison hemlock** (Conium maculatum), an unrelated and highly toxic herbaceous weed (often found along roadsides and in ditches) that can be fatal if ingested. Info on both tree and plant from google.

As a matter of fact, we have quite a few patches in rainforest in the good old US of A. After all, we got Puerto Rico and Hawaii. Besides, you don't necessarily need a tropical climate to have rainforest, just a lot of rain. So, there are rainforest on the slopes of quite a few mountain ranges where the steep rise stops the moisture from the oceans--even in the stereotypically sunny and arid State of California!

Thank you, Cayla! Such a beautiful image--and it really captures the enchanting feeling of the Hoh River Valley. I have actually been there only once for a couple of days, but the landscape absolutely left a lasting impression on me--and created some my favorite souvenir photos.

That yellow raincoat pops beautifully against the mossy Hoh rainforest path.

Great walking spot! (My absolutely favorite modern cosmic horror writer - Laird Barron - has set some VERY spooky stories in these forests! They're in Washington State, or am I wrong?)
