Festival Night - 31/66 - **The Haida Copper Shield Feast** --- The Haida Copper Shield Feast is a profound ceremony deeply rooted in the culture of the Haida people, an Indigenous nation native to the Pacific Northwest coast, primarily the Haida Gwaii archipelago in British Columbia, Canada. Historically, these feasts were held during the winter months, a sacred time dedicated to supernatural encounters, storytelling, and intense spiritual ceremony. --- 1 - my entry 2 - too large to submit The event served as a specialized, high-stakes form of the potlatch. At the heart of the feast was the Copper (T'aaGu), a large, shield-shaped sheet of beaten metal that represented immense wealth, prestige, and history. During the ceremony, a high-ranking chief would display, gift, or even break a Copper. Breaking a copper—or throwing it into the ocean—was a supreme demonstration of wealth, proving the chief’s status was so monumental that he could destroy an irreplaceable treasure without economic ruin. Attended by neighboring clans, these feasts legally validated titles, inherited rights, and ancestral lineages before the community, while reinforcing the complex social hierarchy and spiritual interconnectedness of Haida society.

I did vote for yours once. Beautifully done and unique. However, I didn't call this one. A couple of the challenges I recognized your work (and was right).
