Yallery Brown is an English folktale. A young man hears a cry for help and sees an old ugly fairy under a rock. Despite his misgivings, being kindhearted, he sets the fairy free. The grateful fairy offers him a wish. The young man, being a tad lazy, asked him if he could do his work. The fairy agreed. The young man thanked him whereupon the fairy flew into a rage and told him never to thank him. Sweeping, making the butter, milking the cows and the myriad jobs a farmhand does were done magically. Then the villagers started whispering the young man was a warlock. So he called upon Yallery to stop doing his work. When Yallery agreed and ended the magic, the polite young man thanked Yallery for all his help. Yallery flew into a rage as he thanked him again and cursed the young man with lifelong bad luck. Wokk's tha will, tha'll nivver do well, Wokk's tha mowt, tha'll nivver gain owt, For harm an' mischance an' Yallery-Bro-wun, Tha's let out theesen from unner the sto-wun! The young man had bad luck all his life. Here's the thing tho, I think Yallery liked the young man and may have cursed him as the lesser of two evils. Thanking a fairy means you owe that fairy a favor. Not only can they call the favor in at any time but they might whisk you off to fairyland to be their servant forever. The favor called in can be a lot more than what you did for them. By magically doing the chores, the fairy paid off the debt of being freed from under the stone. By thanking the fairy, the young man created a new debt. I think by cursing him, Yallery removed the favor owed so the young man remained free. Not happy but free. The traditional morale of this story is do not help a fairy no matter what. My interpretation is help the fairy but do not thank them no matter what. Understanding & respecting a different culture is vital esp with magical beings. Fairytale Challenge https://budgetpixel.com/blog/fairytalefolklore-imagevideosong-challenge-march-20-26-2026

Wow! Thanx! That was very considerate! AND calming, let me add. For this you get not one, nut five gold coins AND a spell that will get you out of that barn, pronto! ...What? does it really work? Of course it does! Trust me. I'm a wizard.

I have taken a Vow of Silence on that VERY weird matter... (Also, I have taken on psycotherapy. You know. So I can forget it. TOTALLY forget it.)

Yeah, never have dealings with fairies! They always overreact, always shaft you -for example, charging a uincron's A$$ for a spell-grimoire, never bothering to tell you there is a freaking VOLUME TWO!!!! (you hear me there in the mail-service?!!) So, NEVER have dealings with fairies, says I! Trust me, I'm a wizard!
