Fri: Angola: "The Daughter of the Sun and Moon" It is a traditional folktale of the Mbundu (Kimbundu) people of Angola, reflecting a rich history of Bantu cosmology. In this cultural tradition, celestial bodies like the Sun and Moon are personified as a married couple living in a society that mirrors human structures, complete with handmaidens and marriage customs. The story serves both as a moral lesson and an origin myth, explaining natural phenomena like the Milky Way, which is said to have been formed by the spider webs used to travel between the heavens and the Earth. The tale follows a chief’s son named Kimanuele, who refuses all earthly brides, insisting on marrying the daughter of the Sun and Moon. While powerful animals fail to deliver his marriage proposal to the heavens, a clever frog succeeds by hiding in the water jugs of celestial handmaidens who descend to Earth on spider webs. Through persistent secret messaging and a clever ruse to bring the bride down, the frog facilitates the union between the prince and the celestial daughter. The story concludes with their happy marriage and the frog being honored as the wisest of all creatures for bridging the gap between the two worlds. ----------------------------------------------------- Fairytale/Folklore Image/Video/Song Challenge (March 20-26, 2026) https://budgetpixel.com/blog/fairytalefolklore-imagevideosong-challenge-march-20-26-2026
